Back Pressure Regulator
The primary function of a Back Pressure (BP) regulator is to provide precise control over upstream pressure, offering greater accuracy compared to relief valves. Direct spring-operated relief valves typically exhibit high reset pressure which can be inconsistent and unreliable. These valves are designed to protect equipment by fully opening immediately when the set pressure is reached, thereby venting excess pressure. This immediate and fully opening is the main difference between a safety relief valve and a BP regulator. A BP regulator, on the other hand, is designed for precise upstream pressure control and will open controlled to vent out excess fluid, and pressure variation will only be a few percent of the set point. OBS RPL-B (BP) regulators are available in various models to meet different client specifications regarding pressure and flow capacities.
The OBS RPL-B regulators are based on the common principal of using a pressure sensing element with a constant area balanced against an adjustable spring force. The unique feature of the OBS BP regulator is that this pressure sensing element is a patented stack of O-rings instead of a piston with a gliding seal. This solution is friction free and gives a fast and accurate response.
